Thomson opens GDC in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Information services outfit Thomson Corporation today announced the launch of its global delivery centre in Hyderabad. To begin with the centre would operate with 50 employees before increasing its strength to 1000 by 2009.

"The Hyderabad centre would act as a multi-functional shared service centre. Initially we would be working on financial, accounting transactions and enterprise systems. Over the next three years we would also be looking at adding more services at the centre,'' said Pradeep Lankapalli, vice president, Shared Services, Thomson Corporation.

Lankapalli has been bestowed with the responsibility of heading the Hyderabad centre. It is housed in the city outskirts at Jayabheri Silicon Towers, Kondapur.

``The time was right to have another centre in India. Hyderabad is a logical choice in India,'' said Sandhya Vasudevan, senior vice president and managing director, Thomson Financial India.

In Hyderabad Thomson would hire a mix of experience professionals as well as university students, said Lankapalli while addressing media persons here.

In India, Thomson already has a centre in Bangalore set up in 1994. The Bangalore centre currently employees over 2200 employees. Thomson's revenue for the year 2005 stood at $8.52 billion.
