The number of developers using BIRT worldwide grows to 3.5 mn

LONDON, UK: Actuate Corporation, The BIRT Company and the leader in personalised analytics and insights has announced the number of developers using BIRT worldwide has grown to 3.5 million, an increase of 5,00,000 in just six months, based on quarterly surveys conducted by an independent, global, developer research firm.

"We are delighted that developers continue to adopt BIRT in record numbers," said Nobby Akiha, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Actuate. "This independent quarterly research confirms that the broadening BIRT product line meets the needs of a wide range of developers when it comes to building or embedding superior reporting and visualisation into their data-enriched applications.

"Additionally, the growth in the number of developers following Actuate is clearly reflected in the surge in our social media engagement levels," added Akiha. "Actuate's BIRT social media profile continues to grow organically, with new followers on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, indicating a vibrant and active BIRT community. We have also observed a 50 percent increase in the number of visitors to our new developer.actuate.com site since its introduction last fall."

Actuate introduced a new brand identity and new developer website: developer.actuate.com, late last year. In addition to supporting the BIRT community through forums and peer-to-peer sharing of content, the new developer site features downloads of the Eclipse BIRT IDE (co-founded and sponsored by Actuate) as well as free trial downloads of Actuate commercial BIRT products such as the various BIRT Designers, BIRT iHub, and the free open-source add-on BIRT Viewer Toolkit.

Additionally, developers and other professionals can view thousands of new videos, articles and tutorials to help them become more familiar and proficient with the technology. Since launching its new identity and structure, the number of developer.actuate.com visitors has grown by 50 percent.

Actuate also launched BIRT Meetups for developers in the San Francisco Bay Area, London, New York City and Washington, D.C., with a new Meetup coming soon to France.

Also just launched is Actuate's comprehensive blog site at blogs.actuate.com, with blogs by more than 10 subject matter experts covering Actuate's three divisions: BIRT, Analytics and CCM (Customer Communication Management).
