The real world has been a perennial source of inspiration for TV shows and movies. But, it is about time that the virtual world started inspiring the creative minds behind the lens. There are a lot of crime patrolling shows with characters that are 'hackers' but a few cater to the complicities of a virtual world. Now is the time to mirror the virtual battle ground for crime, the cyber crimes. While there are not many but, joining the bandwagon of such cyber crimes based shows, a new web-series- Cybersquad has been launched by ALTBalaji that will explore the dark side of the Internet- a world where hackers hide behind their laptop screens to attack innocent people.

The storyline of Cybersquad resonates with the life of every internet user today. In the present age of technology and social media, our identities belong to the Internet companies and nothing we do is offline! The paranoia that comes with the online presence is real and everyday cases of trolling, identity theft, frauds indicate the impending menace of an epidemic level and this is what the new digital show is about.

Well, Cybersquad isn't the only one out there depicting the rise of the virtual world and how it is taking over people's normal interactions and lives. When the real world is losing millions of dollars to cyber crime, ironically, our producers are raking in the moolah from serving the same to the audience through movies and TV/web shows.  I still remember a web series from Yashraj Films whose trailer we saw last year but is yet to release. Darr 2, like its namesake starring Shahrukh Khan is about obsession and fear in the age of cyber stalking and digital crimes. Check the video here

There is another very popular web series A.I.SHA My Virtual Girlfriend that received rave reviews from critics and viewers alike. It is the story of a relationship between a man and woman, only, the woman is the first-of-its-kind Artificial Intelligence Simulated Humanoid Assistant (A.I.SHA) that develops a mind of her own.

Interestingly, while some of these shows are depicting whats happening out there in the real world, others are playing on the fears of what may entail. The recent attacks of ransomware can definitely leave a room for creativity and dark world of cyber media. Our online self is definitely compromised and the threat that it faces reflects in such shows. Let us wait and watch when such shows also start to appear on the small screen.
