Tharoor spells AABC to make pros communicate better

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, INDIA: Former Under Secretary General of the United Nations Shashi Tharoor has announced the official launch of his Afras Academy for Business Communication (AABC).

The academy will get rolling on May 14 at the Thiruvananthapuram Technopark campus. The academy is the fulfillment of the promise Tharoor made some time back during his visit to Thiruvananthapuram to set up a finishing school of international standards for professionals.

Tharoor said here today that AABC would strive to provide state-of-the-art instruction to prepare India’s future leaders with global business communication skills.

Tharoor, chairman, Afras Ventures, told the media that the attempt is to try and provide a world-class facility to Kerala that will equip the state to be able to function more effectively in the globalised world in the 21st century.

“AABC aims to help people to speak English with confidence to communicate effectively to develop presentation skills in today’s competitive world,” he said.

The academy is built on an initial investment of Rs 4 crore and more investment is expected soon.

According to R K Nair, CEO, Technopark, “today it is imperative to develop our human resources skills more than the infrastructure development as this is a critical need for Kerala at this hour when we are in the spotlight. Therefore an academy to equip our professionals’ with human resources skills will be an added advantage for them to be known as complete professionals in the global marketplace making them equivalent to their peers in other countries in all aspects of professional life.”

The courses will commence from June this year and the curriculum has been divided into four modules: Language and Grammar, Accent Modification, Presentation Skills and Business Etiquettes.

The standard package designed for employment seekers and new hires, is an eight-week course with flexible timings.

Each batch will comprise 20 students and the fee for the standard course is Rs 30,000 plus service taxes.

Tina L Parsons, an eminent Speech Language Pathologist and Voice Specialist from New York, is the executive director of Training.
