Textbooks go online in Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI, INDIA: After the Central Board of Secondary Education put out all the school textbooks online, the Tamil Nadu Government has followed suit.

The state education minister, Thangam Thennarasu recently launched the online versions of school textbooks prescribed for the primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in Tamil Nadu. The textbooks till now published by the Tamil Nadu Text Books Organisation will also be available at www.textbooks.nic.in.

The website has the complete contents of all the 322 textbooks from Class I to XII of the Tamil Nadu State Board in PDF format. It is expected to benefit students, parents and teachers in going through lessons when the printed books are not available.

Students living in other states or abroad can access the books online anywhere and at any time. The site will also be useful for getting feedback on the syllabus from a large group of users. The books have been uploaded chapter wise to facilitate faster downloading.

The website has been developed by the National Informatics Centre for the State School education department.
