The new network will deliver fixed and mobile broadband services, including high-speed TV for residential users, as well as cloud services for businesses, all from a single IP network, says the announcement.

As Telefónica looked to the future, it recognized the need for a scalable, streamlined and highly automated network that could enable rapid service delivery and tailored customer experiences at a competitive price. After a comprehensive search, Telefónica selected the Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Router portfolio to consolidate its wholesale, residential and business services onto a single end-to-end IP infrastructure.

As shared, Telefónica’s new network will enable superior capacity and performance for video capabilities, including multicast IPTV, network DVR, catch-up services, fixed and mobile broadband and voice, and Layer 2 and Layer 3 business VPN, as well as provide agility and flexibility to create and launch new services. Juniper was also selected for its strong NFV and SDN capabilities, which will help Telefónica efficiently meet evolving customer demands.

“This partnership with Juniper is a further step in Telefónica’s technological transformation strategy. We are making huge advancements toward our goal to simplify and modernize our network to offer differentiated services that greatly enhance the customer experience. Our new network supported by Juniper Networks will streamline connectivity with a seamless IP path from access to services and cut down the number of hops to traverse. The new network will also be quicker to provision, thereby reducing time-to-service activation and enabling simpler overall operation and maintenance. We partnered with Juniper for its proven capability to deliver end-to-end solutions, its innovative technologies and strong leadership.” said Joaquin Mata, chief technology officer, Telefónica Spain.

“Building a new network for a global service provider entails a profound transformation that requires a reliable and proven relationship to succeed. Beyond providing future-proof innovative technology, Juniper is committed to helping Telefónica accomplish its strategic objectives through high-touch support and professional services throughout the different phases of the deployment and operation of its new network.” added Gerard Allison, senior vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Juniper Networks
