BANGALORE, August 25 : The Telecom Commission has

decided to constitute a `Telecom group on information technology enabled

services'. This is being done as a follow-up to the National Telecom

Policy-99 (NTP-99) recommendations on the registration policy for Other

Service Providers (OSPs).

The group will be headed by Dr D.P.S. Seth of Telecom

Commission and will have ten members drawn from Government departments and

industry. It is expected to submit its report within three months after

its first regular meeting. This group will look into the need for

coordination and strengthening the telecom infrastructure and work out

operational details for supporting such services. IT enabled services

include call centres, tele-medicine, tele-education, tele-working,

electronic governance, medical transcription, electronic-based services in

banking, insurance, and national and international air services, including

hotel reservations, tours and travels.
