'Telecom import restrictions will jack up prices'

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Restrictions on import of telecom equipment will result into increase in telecom equipment prices. “If security clearance is not given to Chinese equipment manufacturers then the prices of telecom equipment may increase,” said Kuldeep Goyal, chairman and managing director, BSNL.

Talking exclusively to VOICE&DATA, Goyal shared his apprehensions regarding the manufacturing segment which is facing some issues due to the government stand on the import keeping in view the security compliance.

The CMD of BSNL also feels that if the Government is being adhering to the security norms to the Chinese manufacturers, then it must also follow the same policy towards the European manufacturing companies.

A uniform security guidelines should be followed in scrutinizing the equipments. Selective surveillance on the import of networking equipments is one of the many reasons that is escalating the prices.

"The security clearance issue will result in the increase in the price of equipments which can impact the industry," he added.
