BANGALORE, INDIA: Beware of “I love you”.
Researchers from McAfee have seen malware-ridden Valentine e-cards containing love notes such as “Deeply in love with you” and “Only you in my heart.” The user is enticed to click on a link to malware disguised as cute red hearts. When clicked, a nasty malware is unleashed on the user’s computer.
“Adorable” e-card for your sweetheart – An e-card with Shih tzu puppies seems endearing, but cybercriminals are implanting dangerous links in these e-cards. It’s a common social engineering trick to convince users to download a real threat.
Tips to stay safe this Valentine’s Day: Do not click on links in emails from people you do not know. You can instantly install malware without even knowing it.
To stay safe, use comprehensive security software and keep it up-to-date.
