My staff and I are very excited about working with Horizon in implementing our new technology system,” said Dr. Vista Suarez, Director of Memphis City Schools Division of Nutrition Services. “We look forward to the many benefits that the new system will provide to our students, parents, and staff."

MCS will be implementing Horizon’s premiere OneSource solution which includes POS, Free & Reduced Meal Application program, and MealpayPlus online payment system, as well as its back of the house systems for inventory, procurement, menu planning, and production in its schools, warehouse, and central kitchen. MCS joins other top-100 US districts such as San Francisco USD, Aldine ISD, and Anne Arundel County Public Schools who have recently implemented Horizon’s OneSource solution.

Horizon’s POS system is completely integrated with the Free & Reduced Program Management Suite and MealpayPlus Online Prepayment system (in addition to back of the house management modules). The system will decrease the administrative workload of cafeteria staff allowing them more time for meal preparation, student interaction and maintaining an enjoyable eating environment for students and staff. The POS system will increase line speeds with quick sale functionality and fewer students using cash, allowing more students to be served in less time. Parents will be able to access and prepay their students’ accounts via the internet, monitor what their children are purchasing, and be notified when meal accounts have a low balance. The back of the house systems will improve the efficiencies of its operations. Benefits are expected to be realized through faster and more accurate Free & Reduced Program application processing, increased participation, better control of food costs, more efficient warehouse and central kitchen procedures, and improved student, staff, and parent satisfaction.
