TCS top boss appointed Tata Sons chairman, CFO Rajesh Gopinathan will succeed him

Tata Sons has named 54-year old CEO and managing director of TCS, N Chandrasekaran as its new chairman. He will take charge from February 21, 2017.

The decision to appoint Chandrasekaran was taken at a meeting of Tata Sons board today by a five-member search committee comprising Ratan Tata, TVS Group head Venu Srinivasan, Amit Chandra of Bain Capital, former diplomat Ronen Sen and Lord Kumar Bhattacharya.

After ousting its chairman Cyrus Mistry in October, Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata group companies chose Ratan Tata as interim chairman of the company. Chandrasekaran was appointed as a director on the board of Tata Sons just a day after.

"Mr. Chandrasekaran has demonstrated exemplary leadership as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services. We believe he will now inspire the entire Tata group to realise its potential acting as leaders in their respective businesses, always in keeping with our value system and ethics and adhering with the practices of the Tata group which have stood it in good stead," The Board of Tata Sons said in a press statement.

Chandrasekaran had joined TCS in 1987 and had been heading the company since 2009.

TCS CFO Rajesh Gopinathan will succeed Chandrasekaran as the CEO of  TCS. TCS has also named N Ganapathy Subramaniam, who is currently President, TCS Financial Solutions as the President and Chief Operating Officer and appointed him as a director on the board of the company.

Gopinathan joined TCS in 2001 and was appointed as CFO of the company in February 2013. Prior to this, Rajesh was the Vice President - Business Finance. He has also worked with Tata Industries.
