Tata Tele, Acer launch embedded netbook

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Telecom services provider Tata Teleservices Limited and Acer India announced on Thursday the launch of a Next-Generation Netbook — the Aspire One AOD 260.

Embedded with Tata Photon Plus, Aspire One will offer high-speed Internet access for connectivity on the go, at broadband speeds, said a press release.

Tata Teleservices also announced a strategic alliance with Acer India, wherein Aspire One would be made available at all TTSL retail outlets in Mumbai and Delhi, in the first phase of the launch.

This is the first time, ever, that Acer India has inked a strategic alliance with TTSL to offer a high-end Netbook with advanced features and an embedded Photon Plus device, which will offer access speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps, the release added.

“Partnering with Acer India enables us to provide customers with a compelling proposition, that of accessing the Internet at blazing speeds on the Photon Plus platform, making for a new and invigorating computing experience on the feature rich Aspire One,” said Lloyd Mathias, president, Corporate Monitoring Group, Tata Teleservices.

He said the Acer Netbook will herald a new era in versatile computing, and is in keeping with TTSL’s endeavor to provide affordable and ubiquitously accessible high-speed Internet access to its customers.

Speaking at the event Mr. S. Rajendran, chief marketing officer, Acer India opined, “Ever since the launch of netbooks in India, the market has been displaying tremendous growth for mobile computing devices... With this launch, we will be in a position to adapt to the ever changing needs of our consumers.”

The product, priced at Rs 17,999 + taxes, will be available in Delhi and Mumbai in the initial launch phase.
