Tanzania woos ICT investors

NEW DELHI:" Come invest in ICT, among other verticals", was the message of the visiting Tanzanian President Benjamin William Mkapa while addressing the Indian industry representatives organized by CII-FICCI in his honor. Other areas of investments as underlined by Mkapa were mining, energy, tourism, textiles, consumer goods, gems and jewelry, pharmaceuticals, beverages and food processing.



Mkapa said that the interests of his government and the Indian business community could be mutually reinforcing and assured the Indian business fraternity that their investments would be protected and that it was a key concern for the government to make them profitable and successful.



It may be noted that India is one of the top fifteen investors in Tanzania and Tanzania is India's fifth largest trading partner in Africa. Mkapa said that it holds the potential to be number one trading partner from Africa for India.



The Tanzanian President also elaborated on the investment friendly measures being undertaken by his government. Her said that Tanzania offers an attractive incentive regime for investors, including a stable, predictable and conducive macro-economic environment along with tax incentives and protection against arbitrary nationalism and expropriation. Mkapa assured the industry further by saying that his government maintains a healthy and on-going dialogue with private sector from within Tanzania and abroad.



Speaking on the occasion, Digvijay Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs said that Mkapa's visit was an important milestone in economic-commercial relationship between the two countries.
