Taiwan expects 14 p.c. growth in IC segment in its Q2

SAN FRANCISCO, USA: Taiwan expects to witness a growth in the second quarter of its integrated circuits (ICs) segment.

The second quarter could be worth $13.94 billion, 14.3 per cent up from the first quarter. This has been forecasted by a government agency in Taiwan, as reported by Taiwan based Taipei Times.

According to the Taipei Times, the report, prepared by the Industry and Technology Intelligence Services department of Taiwan's Ministry of Finance, cites strong sales of smartphones, robust demand for LCD TVs and the recovery of the semiconductor industry for the projected increase.

The report projects that, Taiwan’s IC manufacturing output is expected to grow 16.3 per cent sequentially to about $7.13 billion in the second quarter. As per the report, chip design output is projected to grow 12.5 percent to $3.4 billion, while chip packaging output is projected to grow 12.1 per cent to $2.36 billion and IC test is projected to grow 11.9 per cent  to about $1.05 billion.

The report from the Taiwanese government agency also states that, Taiwan's total semiconductor revenue in the first quarter was about $12.2 billion in the first quarter, down 3.1 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2011.
