e-con Systems launches USB 3.0 camera with changeable lenses

ST. LOUIS, USA & CHENNAI, INDIA: e-con Systems Inc., a leading embedded design services company specializing in the development of advanced camera solutions, announced the launch of the See3CAMCU50, part of the See3CAM family of USB3.0 SuperSpeed cameras.

The See3CAMCU50 supports the M12 lens mount and customers can choose a lens of their choice. The See3CAMCU50 supports video streaming at resolutions of up to 1080p@30fps and full resolution (2592x1944) @15fps. The UVC compliant camera is plug-and-play in both Windows and Linux. In Windows, the camera is exposed as a DirectShow device and in Linux, as a V4L2 capture source.

The See3CAMCU50 is ideal for customer applications where the flexibility for choosing a lens of their choice is required. See3CAMCU50 can be used in Medical devices like Digital Microscopy, Dermatology, Low Vision Products, Surveillance, Video Analytics, patient monitoring systems etc. Also they can be used for KIOSK, OCR and Video Conferencing.

"We had a number of our customers asking for a higher viewing angle on our flagship product e-CAM51_USB. The viewing angle requirements ranged from 75 degrees to 150 degrees. The See3CAMCU50 allows the customer not only the flexibility to choose a wide-angled lens of their choice but also combines the advantage with the USB 3.0 functionality," said Ashok Babu, president, e-con. "The See3CAMCU50 based on e-con's own USB UVC Stack, e-con can also offer customized versions of the See3CAMCU50 camera as per customer requirements."

The See3CAMCU50 is a 5.0 MP UVC-compliant USB 3.0 Super Speed camera with the S-mount (M12 board) lens holder. It is based on the ¼" OV5640 CMOS image sensor from Omni Vision Inc., The See3CAMCU50 can stream HD @60fps (720p60) and Full-HD @30fps (1080p30) in compressed MJPEG mode and uncompressed 720p30 and 1080p15 YUV422 formats, through the USB3.0 interface which supports about 5Gbps bandwidth.

See3CAMCU50 can stream the full 5MP resolution compressed MJPEG video streaming at around 15fps for high resolution imaging applications. See3CAMCU50 is also backward compatible with USB 2.0 High Speed host ports.

e-con Systems' sample Linux and Windows applications uses the standard UVC protocol to access the camera controls. The e-CAMView, sample Windows DirectShow based sample video viewer application enables controls such as supports brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, sharpness control, white balance, etc.
