BANGALORE: Symbol Technologies, Inc., an enterprise mobility company, has announced its expanded presence in India with the official opening of a new software development center in Bangalore. This center will focus on developing Symbol's next generation of wireless and mobility systems management products, and will augment Symbol's three other global technology development centers.

"Like other global technology companies, it's important for Symbol to have facilities based at strategic locations throughout the world to best serve the needs of our customers and business partners," said Symbol senior VP of the global products group Todd Hewlin. "The true value proposition of having a facility in the RMZ EcoSpace technology center is the availability of an immense pool of world-class engineering talent," he added.

Symbol manufactures advanced data capture, wireless networking, mobile computing and mobility software management products that are integrated into an overall end-to-end enterprise mobility system. The company has had a software development facility in the Bangalore area for several years. The new 80,000-square-foot facility is expected to enable Symbol to accelerate its delivery of new products and solutions, while also extending its presence in the Asia Pacific region. Symbol's operations in India have grown from employing 50 associates last year to the current 170 associates. This growth is consistent with the growth Symbol is experiencing in other geographies including the US, Europe and Asia Pacific.

"India is strategically important for Symbol not just from a product development perspective, but also as a target market for our entire range of enterprise mobility products. With the Indian economy growing at a fast rate, and a need for technology solutions in the retail, healthcare, transportation and logistics sectors, Symbol sees tremendous potential in this market," explained Hewlin.

Symbol Technologies India MD Amit Phadnis said, "As Symbol scales its operations in conjunction with its plan to lead the enterprise mobility market, expansion of our global infrastructure of product development, sales, manufacturing and administrative facilities is part of the realization of that plan."
