Symantec to save mobiles now

NEW DELHI: Increasing number of subscribers accessing data through mobile handsets has attracted anti-virus companies for introducing software designed specially for mobile phones.

Symantec Corp. is in talks with major service providers for offering mobile anti-virus for smart phones. Vishal Dhupar, managing director, Symantec informed CyberMedia News that the company is talks with service providers for offering the anti-virus software for subscribers accessing web through handsets.

“We already have software available in the open market for mobiles but now we are also looking at offering it through mobile operators. With mobile computing taking off it is a need for this hour to make the phones secure against any virus attacks. It is a major challenge as the number of mobile computing increasing among subscribers,” he said.

The company is already in talks with Bharti Airtel. Currently Airtel and Hutch offer Blackberry devices in India.

Dhupar said that the company is open to talks with mobile handset manufacturers for anti-virus solution. With this the mobile phones would come packed with anti-virus solution helping consumers purchase a full-packaged devices free from virus attack.
