Symantec names Salem as COO

BANGALORE, INDIA: Symantec today announced the appointment of Enrique T. Salem as its chief operating officer.

Salem will be responsible for product development, sales, services, marketing and information technology activities. He will report to Symantec chairman and CEO John W. Thompson.

Salem most recently served as group president of Symantec worldwide sales and marketing. Salem has two decades of experience in sales, product delivery and operations. He is tasked with driving operational consistency across the business.

Before joining Symantec, Salem was with Brightmail, which was acquired by Symantec in 2004. In another announcement, Gregory W. Hughes, most recently served the group president of Symantec Global Services, was named chief strategy officer with the responsibility for corporate development and strategy.

Symantec also appointed J David Thompson as the group president, Information and services group. He will report to Salem.

The business unit leaders will report into Salem. Thomas W. Kendra will remain as group president of the Security and Compliance Group (previously Security and Data Management Group).

Gregory S. Butterfield will continue in his interim role as group president for the Storage Management Group (previously Data Center Management Group) and as group president of the Altiris Business Unit. Janice D. Chaffin remains group president of the Consumer Business Unit.
