Sun Cobalt range of products will extend the reach of the Internet by setting

new standards for value integration, and ease of use. Small to medium-sized

organizations, workgroups, branch offices, and educational institutions can use

the Sun Cobalt products to serve Web pages, share files across the network,

process e-mail, serve as a firewall and improve network performance via caching.

"The Sun Cobalt range of server appliances will provide to the growing

SME segment completely new elements of value that has never been seen in India.

This would be at an extremely affordable price and doing away with the customer

having to go through the complication of choosing the hardware, software and the

right skill set to manage the server," said Sun Microsystems India director

of systems engineering Anil Valluri.

The Sun Cobalt products are designed with a new software architecture that

shields end-users from the technical complexities of setting up a server. Cobalt

integrated the application and system functions into a unified user interface,

allowing for single click administration.

The Sun Cobalt products allow businesses to maximize the benefits of various

broadband technologies. A single connection to the Internet using a choice of an

external modem, a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) router, a cable modem, or an

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) or leased line router can be securely

shared across an organization.

Small to medium-sized businesses and workgroups can use the Sun Cobalt

products like Qube 3 for centralized file storage for quick access to critical

business documents. The Qube 3 includes back-up and restore mechanisms for data

security and also includes RAID 1 software, which ensures the availability of

content in the event of disk failure through data redundancy over two disks. Sun

Cobalt products use the Linux operating system.
