Sun to host Tech Days in Hyderabad

BANGALORE, INDIA: Sun Microsystems India today announced details of its annual developer conference, Tech Days 2009. Designed to showcase how developers can leverage Sun technologies, services and products to drive the next generation of technology innovation, the three day event will be held in Hyderabad.

James Gosling, vice president and Sun fellow and Matt Thompson, senior director, Cloud Developer Platform, will be the featured keynotes.

The theme for this year's Sun Tech Days program is "Empowering YOU” and is aimed at fostering "Innovation, Collaboration, and Integration" amongst the developer community in order to drive innovation.

Cloud computing, the much talked about trend for 2009 will also be addressed at the conference. Sun will share its vision for delivering a wide variety of Sun-powered clouds, both public and private, that are open and interoperable. Specifically, Sun executives will talk about the role developer communities around the world will play in the cloud ecosystem.

Naveen Asrani, senior manager, Global Developer Relations and Programs, Sun Microsystems said, “Sun Tech Days will visit Hyderabad for the third time in a row and there have been several drivers enabling this city as the preferred destination for India’s largest developer event. These include availability of an excellent infrastructure to support the width and scale of Tech Days, high quality technical resources and dedicated talent pool. The audience in Hyderabad is very receptive to learning new technologies and this year’s event promises to be even more exciting with extensive sessions and updates on revolutionary Java technology and award-Winning NetBeans IDE.”

The Indian developer community is fast moving up the value chain and is becoming a key influencer in the adoption of new technologies. This is reflected in the fact that India boasts of 7, 80,000 developers which is the largest developer base for Sun Microsystems in the world.

Sun Tech Days 2009 will provide thousands of developers in India opportunities to empower themselves with the latest and best technologies from Sun. They can get first-hand knowledge from expert speakers, network and discuss solutions and technologies with their peers, understand more about what's going on from Sun and the industry and all in a local environment.

Sun Tech Days 2009 will be broken into four tracks:

    * Java & Social Computing: Innovations on the Java platform and social networking technology.

    * MySQL & Productivity: Web 2.0 development leveraging Sun's MySQL database, and productivity technology.

    * OpenSolaris: Solaris innovations and application development for the IPS repository.

    * Hands on Labs (HOL): Hands on development with sessions on social computing, MySQL database, JavaFX, OpenSolaris, NetBeans IDE and many others.

The Tech Days program will also include:

    * Demo Showcase: Six demos highlighting JavaFX, mashups, social computing, OpenSolaris, PHP/NetBeans and cloud computing.

    * Lighting Talks: Content organized and delivered by community speakers around the different track topics.

The final day of the event will be University Day which will include interesting demos, sessions on the hottest technologies like Zembly ( to build social networking applications) and Java FX ( to build  Rich Internet Applications).
