PALO ALTO: Sun Microsystems Inc., the largest maker of computers that serve
up Web pages, said on Monday it plans to acquire Gridware Inc., a privately
owned maker of resource management software.
Financial terms for the acquisition were not disclosed. The acquisition,
which is subject to customary closing conditions, will be completed by the end
of this month, Sun said.
Resource management software enables organizations to make efficient use of
all their computing resources, and align that usage with the goals and
priorities of the different projects and groups sharing the resources.
When combined with Sun's Solaris Operating Environment, Gridware software
will help Sun's customers reduce their costs while delivering products to market
in less time, the company said in a statement.
Gridware develops resource management software used primarily in technical
computing environments, such as electronic design automation, mechanical
computer-aided design/engineering and software development.
