Features: The PC features AMD's x86 1600 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 80 GB hard disk, 15" digital color monitor, 52x optical drive, keyboard, scroll mouse and Linux. This HCL PC is also available bundled with Microsoft Windows XP Starter Edition for Rs 11,240.






Speaking on the occasion, AMD corporate VP and AMD India president Ajay Marathe said, "With this sub Rs 10K PC we are unleashing a powerful vision, which would change the global computing scenario. Importantly, through this initiative and our Indian partners, we are committed to a sustainable ecosystem support that will continue delivering affordable solutions that address the Indian users' future needs in computing, multimedia and connectivity."





Chairman and CEO of HCL Infosystems Ajai Chowdhry said, "This is yet another initiative to reaffirm HCL's commitment in making the dream of 'PC in every home' a reality. With this PC, we are targeting the bottom of the pyramid where volumes and fortunes lie. This PC would cater to the unserved markets of the country."





The product and service is available across the country at authorized HCL resellers. HCL is also increasing its manufacturing capacity. According to Chowdhry, the company has already invested Rs 10 crore to expand its production capacity to one million PCs by end of December 2005.





Unveiling the new low cost PC, union minister of communications and IT Dayanidhi Maran said, "This is a joint effort of all the hardware manufacturers. If we want to increase broadband penetration, increase in PC penetration is a must. This is the third launch of low cost PC, but with the additional benefit of bi-lingual Microsoft Windows XP Starter Edition. The government is also planning to use this PC for enabling low cost computing for its e-governance projects."
