This photo printer combines long-lasting pigment ink capable of genuine glossy colour for archival photo printouts. It is also the first printer to incorporate two new ink colours (Red and Blue), giving it a colour gamut that is incredibly high for any inkjet printer.

The printer uses new and improved UltraChrome Hi-Gloss ink to produce beautiful glossy prints. The density of the transparent resin encasing the colour pigment in the new ink is higher than in previous UltraChrome inks. This produces a smooth, super-fine finish with excellent reflective characteristics.

The Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss ink set includes eight individual cartridges and features the new Gloss Optimizer as well as Photo Black and Matte Black ink cartridges. The Epson Stylus Photo R800 allows the user to keep the Photo Black and Matte Black ink cartridges in the printer at all times and the printer driver determines which black ink to use based on paper type selection. In addition to the traditional cyan, magenta and yellow inks, the Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss ink set also includes new red and blue inks that further enhances the glossy finish and expands the effective colour gamut.

Micro Piezo Print Heads and 1.5 Picoliter Droplets

The piezo element in Epson's print head is distinguished by its high speed and super-precise propelling of the minutest ink drops on paper, a result of reaction to electric charges instead of the usual thermal energy. With this advanced method, the Epson Stylus Photo R800 is able to produce ink droplets at an amazing 1.5 picoliter, which sets a new standard as the smallest droplet size in the inkjet printer industry. Combined with Variable-Sized Droplet Technology - the employment of 9 different ink droplet sizes depending on the image composed and media type used - colour and hue gradations are smoother than before.

The Epson Stylus Photo R800 comes equipped with PhotoQuicker v3.5 and PRINT Image Framer, and can be connected to Windows PC or Macintosh computer via FireWire or USB 2.0 which come as a built-in standard.
