BANGALORE, INDIA: A lot has been talked about Microsoft's Surface tablets - Windows RT with an ARM chip and Windows 8 Pro with Intel chip - and about its upcoming Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Now, let us find out what they have in store in terms of expandability, ports and storage options.

Unlike an Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy tablet, which offer 16 GB device as a standard one, Microsoft has gone one step ahead and offers 32 or 64 gigabytes (GB) for the RT model and 64 or 128 GB for the Pro version.

Though the RAM capacity is unknown, just like Windows Phone 8, which supports removable MicroSD cards, the Surface's storage is also expandable with microSD cards, unlike its counterpart iPad.

Coming to the USB support, the RT model has a USB 2.0 port, while the Pro version has USB 3.0 port, where again it beats iPad since it does not have any port support for USB.

In Windows Phone 8, developers can create VoIP apps that plug into our existing calling feature, so Internet calls can be answered like traditional phone calls, using the same calling interface. And, both the Surface tablets include Wi-Fi connectivity, however, it is unknown whether they will work on 3G or LTE network.
