Sterilite #1 in Indian telecom cables market

MUMBAI, INDIA: Sterlite Technologies Limited, a provider of transmission solutions for the power and telecom industries, announced that it has received the 'V&D100 2009' award for 'Top Telecom Cables Company' in India.

The annual survey on the Indian telecommunications equipment industry conducted by Voice&Data Magazine, indicated that the Indian telecom cables market in FY 2008-09 was Rs 1,229 Crores, and Sterlite had a market share of over 30 percent.

Sterlite's contribution to the Indian telecommunications industry has been repeatedly recognized through this forum. Sterlite is the only company to have won this award for six consecutive years from 2004-09.

K S Rao, COO, Telecom, Sterlite Technologies, said: "Despite the current situation in the global marketplace, several global economies continue to build telecom infrastructures in preparation of economic revival. Our global footprint extends to several of these economies and we continue to be bullish on the telecom sector."

Sterlite's current optical fiber facility of 6 mn-km is already under expansion to 12 million-km, which would get established in the current fiscal. Sterlite has decided to further enhance this capacity to 20 million-km, which would position Sterlite amongst the Top three manufacturers globally. The capacity of 20 million-km would be functional by 2011. A project is also underway to increase fiber optic cable capacity to 6 million-km.
