GOA: Vikas Gadre, CIO, Rallis India, in an exclusive interview to CyberMedia News Service, speaks on the technology implementations at Rallis India.

What is the kind of IT infrastructure and applications used at Rallis India?

Since we deal with the agrochemicals, fertilizers and chemical business, there is incessant need to deploy vast IT infrastructure across all our regional offices, depots and head office. All depots are connected with regional offices through VSATs and regional offices themselves are connected through VPN. We went live with SAP on 1st January 2004 and a lot of application deployment is still on.

What is the major IT projects that have been undertaken in the past two years? What were the business needs?

There are some major projects going on right now. The most significant one is the project ‘SARANSH’ wherein we have deployed business intelligence tools with the help of Microsoft. There was a need of such deployment as we had most of the applications running on legacy systems. We are currently outsourcing most of the IT work like payroll, running of SAP, Intranet etc, to third parties.

What are the other technology challenges ahead and what is the strategy to cope-up with that?

The next step is to stabilize SAP. We also need to integrate various applications so that we can reduce cost and eliminate all intermediaries of people that don’t add value to work.
