ST Micro to set up lab in Pune

PUNE: ST Microelectronics India, a provider of domain specific IP (Intellectual property) and reference designs in areas like digital consumer, telecommunications, imaging and car multimedia, has decided to establish a lab here by the next quarter.

Briefing the press here today, Pradeep Kumar, vice president (Emerging Markets) and president, India STMicroelectronics, said that Pune's strategic advantage, as a hub for the automotive industry was one of the main reasons for setting up a lab in Pune.

The lab will provide cost effective support to the company's automotive customers. Further, he added that the lab would initially consist of one or two people and the number would go up as per the demand. The company has no plan to set up an R&D center in Pune.

The company has established a marketing office in Pune and has appointed a sales person. This office is set to expand in future.
