LONDON: STMicroelectronics is said to be mulling over manufacturing analog ICs on 300-mm wafers at its Crolles-2 wafer fab near Grenoble in France.

According to an EETimes report, ST is also into additional manufacture of analog ICs at its Singapore fab, with the capacity at the fab set to go up to 18,000 wafers from 16,000 wafers per day per day.

With the fabs in Singapore fully amortized and responsible for 40 percent of ST's output by area, the company now sees more advanced analog CMOS ICs being made on 90-nm to 130-nm processes at Crolles. The company is also exploring the opportunity to exploit 12-inch capacity at Crolles. However, a final strategy has not been charted out in this regard.

STMicroelectronics’s Crolles-2 fab being partly a research facility, is seen as a crucial hub for bringing up leading-edge digital processes. Company officials have been quoted as saying that it would be soon increasing capacity at Crolles-2 to 3,200 wafers per week or about 13,000 wafers per month and is running 32-nmn in R&D capacity.
