The CMT certification is globally recognized in the medical transcription industry and is awarded by the American Health Data Institute (formerly theAmerican Association for Medical Transcription).  SPi was the first BPO organization in India to sponsor the CMT program for its employees.  As part of the program, SPi selects highly qualified employees to take part in an extensive two week coaching program that prepares them for the qualifying exam given by AHDI.  This preparation helps to ensure that all of the employees who have been selected to take the qualifying exam are able to pass it.

The CMT program is another example of how SPi ensures the career growth of its employees.  The certification not only guarantees immediate promotion for employees within SPi, but it also ensures a significant increase in the pay as they are now eligible to receive premium pay in addition to their regular salary and incentives.

In keeping with its vision of becoming the service provider and employer of choice in India, SPi introduced this program earlier this year.  Mr. Srinivasan S.N., Director of Healthcare Operations in India said, “With this program, our employees have the opportunity to advance their careers and be leaders in the industry.  But it’s not only our employees who benefit.  Our clients do as well.  Having certified medical language specialists working on their account ensures that the transcribed records that they receive are of the highest quality possible.”

SPi currently has 27 CMTs. There are another 23 medical language specialists who have just completed the training program and are ready to take the CMT exam.  By March 2008, SPi plans to have approximately 80 CMTs working in its Indian facilities.
