South Australia woos Indian investors

BANGALORE: After the Australian states of Victoria and Queensland, it was the turn of South Australian government to persuade the Indian industry to explore trade opportunities.

A delegation led by Paul Holloway, minister for industry and trade, government of Australia is visiting Bangalore. The team is expected to visit companies like Infosys and Wipro.

Speaking to CyberMedia News, AK Tareen, director-trade and investment, South Australia, said, “The IT industry in Adelaide is strong in products and multimedia and digital technologies. It should be an attractive investment option for Indian companies since it is the least expensive city in Australia.”

He also said that a recent study that surveyed 98 cities for doing business, rated Adelaide number one in business efficiency.

There are 1100 ICT companies in South Australia, which employ more than 18,000 people. Some of the areas of activity include software development, health information, radio frequency and microwave engineering and mobile and satellite communication.

The industry turnover in 2003-04 was estimated at around $A 4.1 billion.

PGR Sindhia, Karnataka's minister for industry and trade was hopeful that the two States could have joint partnerships in fields like education, ICT, biotechnology and food processing.

The visiting delegation includes Australian companies like e-mail solution provider, WebGenie Software that hopes to find distributors in India and services company Kandysoft that is looking for partners in ICT and BPO operations.
