Sony rolls out optical storage devices in India

BANGALORE: Sony Electronics has introduced its new generation of high

performance, competitively-priced storage devices including CD writers, CD/DVD ROM and

Floppy Disc Drives for Personal Computers, targeted at the PC segment.

Sony Electronics’ assistant general manager, Shigeru Iwata said,

"The high speed capabilities of these innovative devices make them ideal for the

corporate, professional, small office and home users, who need to store and manage digital

images, video, text and transfer data quickly and easily. These drives create powerful,

yet cost-effective storage solutions to suit customers' needs. When introducing the 24X

CD-RW, he mentioned that one could now write a CD within approximately four minutes. Most

importantly, it comes with Sony's Power-Burn technology, which ensures error-free disk

writing."

The value-added back up CD RW, floppy disc drives devices are available

in both external and internal version and offer a reliable hardware, with easy-to-use

software suited to all occasions for keeping back up records. These devices are compatible

with Macintosh and Windows software and other multimedia peripherals including digital and

video cameras, thus making them simple to connect with other systems.

Iwata said, "We are committed to providing OEMs and System

Integrators with an economical solution for building competitively-priced PCs targeted at

value-conscious consumers and businesses. With the proliferation of the PC and Internet in

India, there is enormous potential for rapid growth in the Indian market."

The company's tie-up with Mumbai-based Rashi Peripherals for the

marketing of Sony's storage devices in India is expected to help further strengthen its

relations with Indian Regional Distributors and System Integrators.

Rashi Peripherals, divisional head distribution, Rajesh Goenka said,

"Our company being the leading computer hardware distributor in the country has over

3500 resellers in its network, reaching all parts of the country. "We all know that

Sony is a household name in our country. The product awareness, availability and support

of India local warranty, which is the key to which Rashi is well known for. Thus in a very

short span of time we have managed to grow the volumes exponentially every month."

He also added, "In collaboration with Sony Electronics Singapore,

we are announcing the unique SAP (Sony Authorized Partner) Program in India. Key, loyal,

consistent and most importantly, partners who add value to every Sony storage device

product that they sell will be awarded SAP."

Rashi, with a total turnover of Rs 119 crore and network of 22 branches

across the country, distributes major global brands including Logitech, ASUS, Prolink,

Acer, Jetway and Cnet. It has its own PC brand RP tech manufactured at the ISO 9002

certified manufacturing facility at Daman.
