Sony eyes sales growth in emerging mkts

BANGALORE, INDIA: Sony Corp is seeking to boost its electronics sales in emerging economies by 30 per cent in 2010, the consumer electronics giant's chief financial officer was quoted as saying by the Nikkei business daily.

In emerging markets, televisions and personal computers are posting gains, with double-digit growth recorded in countries such as Brazil and India, chief financial officer Masaru Kato was quoted as saying in an interview with the Nikkei.

The CFO also revealed that Sony is considering investing in LCD panels using large, 11th-generation glass substrates through a joint venture with South Korean firm Samsung Electronics Co, the daily reported.

Sony, which swung to the black on a group net basis in the July-September quarter, is getting a boost from structural reform and enhanced product appeal, the Nikkei quoted Kato.
