However, only the Wi-Fi enabled version of the tablets is currently available. The devices with both 3G and Wi-Fi access will be available from mid-January.

A late entrant in the Indian tablet market, Sony has priced its tablets a tad below major players like Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy.

"IT market is currently growing in India at a very fast pace and currently we expect the tablet to gain rapid momentum in the near future. And thus, we want to build a strong business foundation for the tablets," said Masaru Tamagawa, managing director, Sony India.

The two tablets, that are of wedge shape and clamshell design, are enabled with a DLNS technology or the throw and share feature which enables the user to connect the tablet to other devices which are not necessarily Sony products.

The company has also collaborated with content providers and offers applications like Big Flix and Meragana.com among others on its tablets.

"Sony plans to spend Rs.10 crore in the next quarter through TV commercials, outdoor publicity and the Internet", Tamagawa added.
