Digital India’s proposal to sell their computer

products and services business to Compaq was approved today at the AGM. The new Digital

Equipment (India) Limited (DEIL) will focus only on software and software exports

Following Digital’s restructure, the company needed an

independent management team for DEIL. The position of CEO was offered to Mr. Som

Mittal.

Mittal was the key driver behind the growth of Digital

India since 1994. Since the worldwide merger of Compaq and Digital, Mittal has headed all

operations of both businesses domestically.

Mr. C. S. Murali has been appointed the Chief Operating

Officer of DEIL, and will be head the India Development Centre. He was formerly with

TCS, TISL, and LEC India.

Mr. Balu Doraisamy will take Mr. Mittals place as MD of

Compaq Computer (India) Private Ltd. CCIPL is the 100% owned Indian subsidiary of Compaq

Computer Corporation.

Prior to this, Doraisamy was Director, Global Accounts,

Compaq Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. He was a key member of the Asia Pacific

management team, and played a vital role in developing strategic customer relationships in

Telecom, finance, and manufacturing industries.
