Som Mittal appointed Managing Director of Digital India

At an Extraordinary General Meeting, the Digital India Board announced that Som Mittal

will head the new Digital India (now focused on the software and services exports

business) as its Managing Director. The announcement was made by Kannankote

Srikanth,

Chairman of the Digital India Board. The board also announced that Compaq supports this

appointment, thus demonstrating their commitment to Digital India.






On accepting the post of Managing Director, Som Mittal said, "I am delighted to have
the opportunity to lead the new Digital India, which I am confident has tremendous future

business potential." He further added, "The company has established a strong

base in terms of people and services and it has considerable financial resources, all of

which can be leveraged to achieve rapid growth in the future."






On announcing the appointment of new Managing Director for Digital India, Srikanth said,
"We are pleased to appoint Som Mittal as the Managing Director of Digital Equipment

India Limited. He was responsible for building a strong company and for developing the

successful software business. His well recognised capabilities and experience will be of

enormous importance in driving the company's future growth."






Further to the approval at the Board meeting held on 27th April 1999, the shareholders of
Digital India unanimously approved to sell the domestic computer products and services

business to Compaq for Rs 83 crore along with a non-complete fee of Rs 5 crore at the

EGM,

transforming the company into a focused software and services exports company with cash

resources of Rs 150 crore. The mission is to make the restructured Digital India one of

the top five software companies in India by year 2001.






The board also confirmed the appointment of CS Murali as the Chief Operating Officer (COO)
of Digital India. Murali will be responsible for the India Development

Centre, which will

focus on software engineering development in India. Srikanth has put across a proposal on

working out the remuneration package of Mittal.
