SolidWorks optimistic on 3D solutions

NEW DELHI: SolidWorks Corporation, a Dassault Systèmes S.A. company that develops and markets software for design, analysis, and product data management is optimistic about its 3D solutions for the Indian market.

The company, which supplies 3D CAD technology, is planning to ride on the ESO wave as well as target the emerging small and medium enterprises (SME) sector in India.

“The potential for SolidWorks’ 3D solutions is immense. That is the reason we are putting a significant amount of our resources here into India. The Indian CAD/CAM/CAE market is estimated to stand at $ 540 million with an annual growth rate of 30 per cent, according to the US Department of Commerce. We have witnessed a paradigm shift in the usage of engineering design software,” Rainer Gawlick, vice president (Worldwide Marketing), SolidWorks Corporation.

Gawlick said that the world is now clearly moving towards 3D design technology. “If we are going to reach a broader market, the largest number of potential users to adopt 3D in the future will be people who are using 2D systems today. As they embrace 3D, they will need these systems to be easier and more powerful. Easier means the learning curve has to be shorter and more powerful means users can effectively leverage their 2D data and skill sets. SolidWorks is making some important technology innovations in these areas,” he said.

With India being tipped to be the next big market for engineering services outsourcing (ESO), SolidWorks sees a huge potential for its 3D solutions. “The potential for us as a result of engineering design and engineering services being outsourced to India is immense. There is a new avenue of opportunity opening up for us now. According to a Booz Allen Hamilton-NASSCOM report, global spending for engineering services is currently estimated at $750 billion per year, a sum nearly equal to India’s entire GDP. By 2020, the worldwide expense on engineering services is expected to increase to over $1 trillion,” Gawlick informed.

SolidWorks strongly believes that the growth of the company is hugely dependent on the SME sector as it holds a wealth of opportunity for the company in India. “With engineering design outsourcing activity gaining importance in India, manufacturing organizations, in the small and medium segment have realized the importance to adopt state of the art technology to stay abreast of their principals and stay competitive in a highly competitive global business ecosystem.
