Dr Vijay Bhatkar
The supercomputer

Vijay Bhatkar proved that restrictions imposed by the Clinton regime could never stunt India's forward march in technology.

He rode into history as the father of Indian supercomputing when, as C-DAC's founder executive director, he built the PARAM-10,000 supercomputer in 1998.
The GIST multilingual technology project at C-DAC was another feather in Bhatkar's cap.
In 1998 he founded the Advanced Computing Training School (ACTS) at C-DAC that provided the industry with 5,000 software professionals.
ACTS was in line with his vision of bridging the digital divide, creating a knowledge-based society and making India an R&D hub for the world.
Currently, Bhatkar is engaged with his 'Education to Home' mission as the chairman of the ETH Research Lab.
