HYDERABAD, INDIA: Singularity, the business process management (BPM) software vendor, announced that it has been successfully appraised at level 3 under the software industry’s standard, the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). CMMI is the international ‘gold standard’ for process excellence in software engineering.

The company is the only one in its market sector to have achieved this level of accreditation. The achievement is particularly notable because it included assessment of the company’s in-house ASAP methodology which is based on the latest ‘Agile’ techniques. The appraisal was won by Singularity’s Hyderabad Software Development Centre.

“This accreditation recognizes our ASAP processes as being best in class at a global level”, said Sean Canavan, director of process improvement.  “It’s a huge achievement and a great reflection on our people in Hyderabad”.

“We’re delighted with the certification” said Srinivas Reddy, head of Singularity’s Hyderabad subsidiary.  “It recognizes the work and dedication to process excellence of the Hyderabad team and of the company as a whole”.

To obtain CMMI Level 3 Singularity formed teams of experts familiar both with the company’s internal software development processes and the requirements of the CMMi model.  These teams used the ASAP approach to prioritize, select and reengineer each process in a series of iterations, with lessons from one iteration being carried over to the next.

This incremental approach reduced the time to standardize on improved processes and ensured easier adoption of the new processes by staff.  Processes were modeled and partially or fully automated using Singularity’s Business Process Management system, the Singularity Process Platform.

Some of the processes that helped win the certification included the Project On-boarding process, which made it easier for measures of productivity and utilization to be captured throughout the project lifecycle, enabling better analysis and decision making.  The automated system used for Project On-boarding was developed using the Singularity Process Platform, and was showcased at the Best Practices Session of the Software Process Improvement Network (SPIN) in Hyderabad.
