SINGAPORE: Singapore today launched an eGovernment Leadership Center to share
its successful eGov initiatives and provide critical training to its own public

officials and counterparts from other countries.

Dr Lee Boon Yang, Singapore's minister for Information, Communications and Arts,
launched the center, eGL, during the inauguration of the weeklong Infocomm and

Media Business Exchange (imbX) event here.

“Our proven track record in developing and implementing innovative e-Gov
solutions over the last 25 years has helped our local enterprises on the world

market. We have received many requests from other countries to share our

experiences and help others to implement the e-gov,” Dr Lee said.

The eGL center will be a joint initiative of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public
Policy, Singapore National University's Institute of Systems Science and the

Infocomm Development Authority (IDA).

Launched today, eGL will become operational in October 2006 and will seek to
provide quality e-Gov education, research and consulting.

There will be many short-term executive development programs for public
officials, which will seek to blend both public policy theory in the area of

e-Gov as well as the practical and technical considerations that drive the

actual implementation.

eGL will be an autonomous graduate school of NUS and will provide education and
training to the next generation of Asian policy makers and leaders. It will

offer Masters degrees in public policy, public administration and public

management.

Initially, Singapore case studies on community services, transport, logistics
and other public services will be disseminated. There will be courses on e-Gov

policy, strategic ICT planning, ICT governance, Business Process reengineering,

sourcing strategies and project management.
