NEW YORK, USA: Library of Congress, USA's oldest federal cultural institution and the largest library in the world, has partnered with Signiant Inc., a software developer of content supply chain management solutions, to manage and archive the library's content and that of social media updates such as Twitter feeds.

"The Library of Congress has accumulated unique relics such as photographs and recordings that unfortunately deteriorate over time," said Thomas Youkel, an information technology specialist and senior systems engineer at the Library of Congress. "Signiant will help us archive user-generated content from various public websites, including Twitter. Social media updates may seem like disposable bits of pop-culture today, but future generations of archeologists may feel differently."

"Signiant is proud to support the mission of the Library of Congress to digitize our American heritage. Whether preserving Mathew Brady's photographs of the Civil War, or archiving user-generated online content, Signiant is proving itself to be up to the challenge," said Dennis Albano, CEO for Signiant.
