BANGALORE, INDIA: Sify Technologies Limited , provider of enterprise data services and consumer Internet with global delivery capabilities, and Narus, provider of real-time traffic intelligence, announced today that Sify has received the “Certificate of Compliance from India’s Department of Telecommunications, stipulating that they met the Lawful Interception and Monitoring System (IPLC-LIMS) regulations for the International Private Leased Circuits Traffic.

This certificate was awarded based on Sify’s demonstrated use of the NarusInsight™ Intercept Suite (NIS), and is required for Sify to offer international long-distance service to its customers.

The explosive growth of IP-based data services worldwide has prompted lawmakers to expand existing wiretap laws to cover new modes of communications that leverage IP, such as VoIP and e-mail. As India has one of the world’s fastest growing telecommunications markets, the Indian government has recognized a responsibility to put in place its own lawful intercept regulations.

To meet these regulations, Sify partnered with Narus, the leader in real-time traffic intelligence to install Narus’ Intercept Suite in their network. The NarusInsight Intercept Suite allows legal intercept of traffic traveling over a provider’s network, regardless of the traffic being encapsulated and routed in different ways. The certificate was issued after the two companies demonstrated to the Indian authorized Law Enforcement Agencies that Sify met the functional requirements of IPLC-LIMS.

“Through our work with Narus and the implementation of the NarusInsight Intercept Suite, we are able to satisfy our government’s requirements for lawful interception and monitoring of our long-distance voice and data traffic in near real time,” said P J Nath, Executive Vice President, Sify Enterprise Solutions. “This compliance certificate completes our licensing requirements to offer international long-distance service and grow our business.”

“NIS is the only solution available that can see and extract targeted data from large, heterogeneous networks – a requirement for lawful intercept on IP networks,” said Yogi Mistry, Senior Vice President of Engineering at Narus. “Governments and service providers alike recognize Narus’ technology as critical in today’s environment, and truly appreciate the advantage of leveraging Narus’ Insight system for traffic intelligence applications beyond intercept including cyber security and traffic management to address grey VoIP, SPAM and other traffic of interest.”

NIS is an intercept and surveillance application that provides real-time, surgically precise targeting, allowing full IP session reconstruction and visibility for traffic such as Web mail, e-mail, IM, VoIP and other IP-based communications. NIS enables the capture of packet-level, flow-level and application-level usage information for forensic analysis, surveillance and regulatory compliance, and secures network monitoring with the complete capture of only targeted data.

NIS’s state of the art IP capture ability solves previous intercept technical challenges like target and capture of MPLS-based VPN traffic, including automatically tracking dynamically-assigned routes across large networks.  NIS is the only product in the industry that solves all of these challenges to address intercept needs on any network, regardless of size, speed or routing topology. NIS is built on the NarusInsight Traffic Intelligence Platform, the only real-time platform capable of offering intercept, security and traffic management with one solution.
