Sify to activate services on EIG cable system

CHENNAI, INDIA: Internet service provider Sify Technologies Limited. which has a strategic investment in Europe India Gateway, announced that it is ready to activate its services on EIG submarine cable system.

EIG is a $700 million high-capacity fiber-optic cable, which when fully activated, will be the first, direct, high-bandwidth optical fiber system from the UK to India.

This could be beneficial for Sify’s enterprise customers and partners in India, Europe and America.

Sify’s partnership with GBI (Gulf Bridge International) to bring cable system in India, is scheduled to go live in second half of 2011.

Chairman of Sify Raju Vegesna, said “We will have over 50 Gbps of bandwidth between India, Middle East and Europe and this will establish our presence and reputation on the Global Telecom map. We are working with our Middle East Telecom partners to create seamless network services to serve Indian, Asian and US carriers and business and help them connect to Middle Eastern countries. We are also working on establishing similar capabilities on India’s eastern sea board.”
