NEW DELHI: Siemens, a global player for Telecom, IT and Network, has bagged an order worth Euro 30 million from Escotel, a Cellular operator in UP (West), Haryana and Kerala, for the expansion and upgradation of its GSM network. Escorts Ltd Chairman Rajan Nanda and Board Member of Siemens Information & Communication Mobile, Siemens AG Lothar Pauly, who was recently in India to announce Siemens' Indian plans and strategy, signed the contract.

As per the contract, Siemens would replace the existing Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) with new upgraded switches in UP (West) and Kerala immediately, and Haryana thereafter. The new upgraded MSCs would be capable of High Speed data services like Multi Media Messaging which allows customers to exchange picture and video content using their cellular phones.

The switch would support all advanced features like Advanced Call Routing, Carrier Pre-selection, Fax & Data and would also be seamlessly upgradable to 3G Data services.

The contract also envisages an aggressive coverage and capacity expansion with installation of over 100 BTS' within the first three months. The enhanced capacities would take care of the increased traffic, which is rising rapidly with an increasing customer base and higher usage trends. This would be followed with addition of 500 BTS', over the next three years, for new sites as well as for replacement of older BTS'.
