Sibal moves motion for JPC in Rajya Sabha

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The government on Thursday moved a bill in Rajya Sabha to constitute a joint parliamentary committee to probe the alleged irregularities in the 2G spectrum allocation. This is the fifth JPC in the history of Indian parliament.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal moved the motion in the Upper House of parliament, from where 10 members are nominated. The remaining 20 members in the 30-member JPC are from Lok Sabha.

The Rajya Sabha members in the JPC include PJ Kurien, SS Ahluwalia and Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP), Jayanti Natarajan (Congress).

After the Rajya Sabha adopts the motion to constitute the committee, a chairperson will be nominated by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.
