According to an Economic Times report, the verification would not only validate facts and records through a detailed background check including any past criminal records but would also involve a physical check by visiting the residential address of the driver.

The move is expected to make drivers more accountable for their duties and performance.

Speaking to the publication, Piyush Peshwani, co-founder, OnGrid said, “We have been working closely with Shuttl's team on their safe driver onboarding initiatives, where they used customised OnGrid methodology and technology platform for background checks for their drivers.“

Amit Singh, co-founder, Shuttl said the strict verification procedure would ensure a safe and reliable ride for the commuters without any scope of an unpleasant experience with a driver.

Nearly a couple of years back, Meru also announced similar measures and set up an in-house verification centre.
