CHENNAI: Shaadi Point, the offline model of Shaadi.com, the online matrimonial portal, plans to increase its presence in the country.

Talking to CyberMedia News, Omprakash Hassanandani, business head of Shaadi Point, said that the offline model was complementary to the online version.

“We now plan to expand our presence to 160 cities with 400 more centres by 2008-`09, adopting the same franchise model, which we follow now,” he informed adding that the offline model was to help the parents, who are not ardent internet users, but at the same time looking out for prospective brides/grooms for their children.

“We have 35 per cent of paid registrations versus 65 per cent of unpaid, which is more than the industry standards,” he claimed, while talking about the number of registrations on the online version.

Stating that growth of the organisation was about 100 per cent year-on-year, he said that the recent funding from Westbridge Capital Ventures would be used for creating a stronger brand presence for the matrimonial portal.

Hassanandani said that the online users were proportionate to that of the cities, and further revealed Shaadi.com’s plans to have a considerable presence in the Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as well when the Shaadi point centres are established.

However, Hassanandani added that there was no specific business strategy for the expansion but only to have a better brand presence to serve the un-served market in the matrimonial segment.
