MUMBAI: SES Technologies, the Mumbai-based subsidiary of Sai Service
Stations, has chalked out plans to bring out assembled notebooks in association
with a Taiwan-based firm.
The notebooks will be assembled at the firm's unit in Pondicherry on a BTO
basis where motherboards called Javelin, are presently being assembled.
According to SES Technologies’ chief executive officer P K Krishnaprasad said,
Intel would validate the notebooks, which is expected to be 30 per cent cheaper
than branded notebooks in the market.
The Mumbai-based distributor will be adding more branches to the existing 18
branches in the country. With this, the firm plans to increase their dealer
base, which might cross the existing base of 1,000 dealers. "The number
might go up to two thousand dealers by next year," said Krishnaprasad.
Besides Intel, the firm recently added Acer, Western Digital, Accton and
Molex as their customers. On Javelin, Krishnaprasad said that the Pondicherry
unit assembles around 1,000 units every month and has a turnover of around Rs 3
crore. There are plans to make this plant an ISO 14000 certified unit by next
year, he said.
The company plans to get into the storage solutions market offering simple
solutions for the SME segment. "Our systems integrate all imported
components with knowledge based effective solutions. The SME segment is not
looking for feature rich products and therefore we see an opportunity
here," he said.
