Fullpower Technologies – founded in 2003 – is a specialist in the development of sensor-interpretation systems. It has developed the MotionX Recognition Engine software, the functions of which include, among other things, pedestrian navigation, receiving sensor inputs and performing gesture-recognition, as well as image stabilization.
Texas Instruments said in a statement that it is planning to combine its MSP430 microcontrollers (MCUs) with the MotionX technology of Fullpower Technologies to create a hardware-software combination which enables developers to differentiate portable devices like Bluetooth, headsets, sports equipment, gaming equipment, and smartphones using motion-sensing technology as well as to extended battery life.
It was in May 2009 that Fullpower Technologies demonstrated, for the first time, the MotionX-Recognition Engine that performs with MSP430.
According to Philippe Kahn, CEO of Fullpower Technologies, “MotionX does for motion what a great speech recognition engine does for speech” and that MSP430 is the perfect platform to embed MotionX in portable devices.
Scott Roller, general manager of the MSP430 platform, explains that MotionX is not only a game-changing technology for motion detection but also enables sensor-enhanced portable devices to understand – in an intelligent and a sophisticated manner – and adjust through simple gestures.
