ProMOS seals stake sale in China JV

TAIPEI, TAIWAN: Shedding its holding in China-based joint venture Putian Maode Technologies (Chongqing), memory chipmaker ProMOS Technologies has said it has completed stake sale.

It has been reported that ProMOS's stake in the joint venture company has been bought by Taiwan-based Stack Devices, a second-tier packaging and testing house. Putian Maode was founded in August 2004 under a strategic partnership between ProMOS, Potevio and Potevio Institute of Technology.

It may be recalled that during March last, ProMOS had announced that it would sell off its shares in Putian Maode. The move was aimed at pocketing close to US$ 310,000.

With the stake sale now complete, ProMOS looks forward to rejig its core business which is expected to help it sail through its fund crunch situation. ProMOS, the company behind DRAM, had recently streamlined its 300mm process facilities at CTSP and HSP.

The memory chip specialist will now also look at joining hands with Elpida Memory and the yet to be launched Taiwan Memory Company (TMC) at its facilities at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP).

The company will also scout for strategic partners for its facilities at the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP). Besides, ProMOS is in talks with a handful of industry players about possible strategic alliances.
