Founded in 2000, iWatt has consolidated two existing Shenzhen design teams at the new location. According to sources, 20 field applications engineers will be added to the team this year.
Asia is fast becoming a leading design center for LED-based solid-state-lighting; and already the established base for mobile phone charger design. iWatt has traditionally served the markets of low-power ac/dc ICs up to 5-watts for mobile phone chargers and up to 40-W for network adapters.
With the company’s recent diversification by which they added AC-DC LED driver ICs for dimmable LEDs to their capability list, iWatt is positioned to foray into an increasing number of conservation initiatives worldwide, which are focused on replacing existing incandescent bulbs with more energy-efficient LEDs.
According to iWatt estimates, growth markets like LED lighting and LCD televisions will account for 30 per cent of its sales.
iWatt has replaced traditional analog control by uses adaptive digital control algorithms. Sources with the company claim that with this new technology, size, cost and efficiency improvements are attained and standby power is decreased.
